5 tips to have a perfect bridal boudoir session

January 13, 2020

Your boo popped the question, you said yes, and now you are planning your wedding. This is an exciting time with many decisions to be made. One of them is whether or not to have a boudoir session. My answer is: YES! Your significant other sure would love the surprise, but you might have doubts about it. Here are 5 tips to make the process easier!

  1. Pick a photographer who you connect with
Picking a photographer for such a special session is an important factor. Pick someone who’s style you like, but also one who you trust, and connect with. The best is to have a personal meeting before booking, so you can get to know each other a bit before deciding. Just like with the wedding photographer, the personality is just as important as their style and price range.
  2. Schedule the session after your hair and makeup trial
Probably you are having a trial run with your make up artist and hairstylist. Many brides schedule their boudoir appointment just after, so they feel already pampered and glammed up for the occasion.
  3. Make a playlist
Either make a playlist you bring, or let the photographer know about the music you would like to listen to. Whether it’s Beyonce or HIM, it’s important the music makes you feel good, and in the mood!
  4. Lingerie, lingerie, lingerie
…and accessories. There are so many options, and even if you don’t have that many lingerie, it’s worth to get something nice for the occasion. Some brides bring their wedding day set and also incorporate their veil, shoes, wedding jewelry, or other details.
  5. Let the photographer know your comfort level before the shoot
A good boudoir photographer will ask you this before the shoot. Let them know your comfort level regarding the level of nudity, poses, the sexiness of photos. If there is anything you are not okay with, let them know! As a photographer, I want to make sure you feel amazing throughout the whole session and leave with a great experience.

+1. Don’t be afraid to be YOU!
Your significant other already knows and loves you the way you are. So don’t worry about the possible stretch marks, scars, or the shape of your body. They accepted you and love you for you – this should be an empowering session where you feel the badass woman you are, and not trying to fit in a mold. Don’t be afraid to let your beautiful self shine!
